>>>The question Jesus asked the man is actually a rhetorical question. It does not require an answer , but rather it is used as forceful statement equivalent to a negative one.
>>
>>Wrong.
>>Since only God is good, and I am good, I am God.

a. It is unnecessarily not requiring an answer.
b. It is a rhetorical question in the context, but ...
b1. it is unnecessarily to be a negative forceful statement.
-- Jesus did not want people to think he is God.
b2. it could be a positive one.
-- Jesus did allow people to think he is God.

>Tom: Smart Mary. What shall I do to be admitted to the NTU?
>Mary: Why do you call me smart? No one is smart except John.
>
>It obvisous that Mary does not consider herself smart. And she is not John.

The above is a nice illustration.
a. However, in the biblical context God is the only one who is good.
Person A could be better than person B,
but no one could be the best or perfectly good .
The portrait of Jesus in the Gospels shows that Jesus is not just a man.

Person A: Just Tutor, what should I, an applicant, do to pass the road test?
Person B: Why do you call me just? No one is just-- except only the inspector of road test. Others could not tell you for sure what you should do.

b. If Jesus is not good, how could he take the title Good Master and answer the question?
c. The point here is no one can use this verse MArk 10:18 to decide that Jesus denies he himself is God.
